On the occasion of the World Heart Restart Day, the “Practical Training and Awareness Day” was successfully held on Friday 18 October 2024, with the participation of more than 40 people. The event was organized by the Human Computer Interaction Laboratory (HCILAB) and the Epirus Center for Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (EPIRUS XR Center) of the University of Ioannina, in collaboration with the Humanitarian Civil Society Organization KIDSSAVELIVES – Children Save Lives.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness and train the public in basic first aid techniques, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking from a foreign body and the correct positioning of a person in a lateral safety position. Through participation in hands-on workshops, attendees were able to learn and apply these techniques under the guidance of qualified instructors.
The training was enriched by the use of virtual reality, where participants practiced emergency scenarios, gaining hands-on experience in a safe environment. This approach offered a modern way of preparing for real-life situations, enhancing their knowledge and confidence.
The workshop was concluded with positive feedback from the participants, who expressed their satisfaction for the experience and the valuable knowledge they gained. Trainers and organisers warmly thanked all attendees for their participation, stressing the importance of proper preparation for emergencies and the value of first aid training.
Finally, we would like to thank the volunteer instructors of KIDSSAVELIVES – Children Save Lives, for their cooperation and participation.
