AN IMMERSIVE VIRTUAL REALITY CENTRE IN EPIRUS

The XR Center project aims to create a modern, open interactive centre and the operation of a flexible multi-purpose immersive mixed reality (virtual and augmented reality) laboratory that will be housed at the University of Arta and specifically at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Ioannina and will aim to promote research, learning and teaching, as well as the democratization and utilization of technologies in interdisciplinary and cultural fields.
In the online meeting the main axes of the project implementation, the needs and priorities for the implementation of the Work Packages were discussed. The research fields of the XR Center were analysed, which, as emphasised, require interdisciplinary cooperation in order to obtain the best results in many different scientific fields and the plan of the research activities of the centre was defined. The creation and operation of such a centre of excellence in the Region of Epirus will come to play a key role in the scientific and cultural life of the region where such structures are still lacking.

A large number of faculty members, research and technical staff from four (4) departments (Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, Department of Medicine, Department of Speech Therapy and Department of Accounting and Finance) of the University of Ioannina participate in this project with Mr. Evripidis Glavas, Professor and Dean of the School of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Ioannina as the Scientific Coordinator of the project.
