Το HCILAB καλύπτει τις ερευνητικές και διδακτικές ανάγκες του Τμήματος Πληροφορικής και Τηλεπικοινωνιών σε προπτυχιακό, μεταπτυχιακό ή και σε επιμορφωτικό επίπεδο, στα γνωστικά αντικείμενα των αντιληπτικών διεπαφών, την καταγραφή και ανάλυση βιοσημάτων, την υπολογιστική όραση και επεξεργασία εικόνας, τις τεχνικές εμπνευσμένες από τoν ανθρώπινο εγκέφαλο, τη βιοπληροφορική και γενικά τις τεχνολογίες ψηφιακού μετασχηματισμού.

Laboratory Director

Alexandros Tzallas

Mr. Tzallas obtained his degree from the Department of Physics at the University of Ioannina in 2001 and his PhD from the Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ioannina in 2009. He has worked on numerous research projects as a programmer/researcher and has published over 200 papers in scientific journals, conferences, and book chapters, with more than 5,400 citations across his work. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the School of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Ioannina, an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London, and a affiliated faculty member of the Digital Innovation Institute at the University of Ioannina Research Center. His research interests include: biomedical technology, bioinformatics, medical informatics, digital processing and analysis of biomedical signals and medical images, wearable systems and devices, as well as intelligent information systems for automated medical diagnosis. Recently, Elsevier included Professor Tzallas in the top 2% of scientists based on the impact of their research in Biomedical Technology and Medical Informatics.

Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), virtual environments at scale, sensory simulations, virtual environments for surgical simulation, haptic interaction.

Bio signal Recording and Analysis

Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), wearable devices, biosensors, kinematic analysis, polysomnography, human electrical activity, emotional and cognitive analysis.

Computer Vision and Image Processing

Μηχανική Όραση (Machine Vision), Συνελικτικά Νευρωνικά Δίκτυα (Convolutional Neural Networks), Ανάλυση εικόνων με GPUs και διάχυτα συστήματα, ιατρική απεικόνιση (Medical Imaging), Ψηφιοποίηση και Ανάλυση Ιστοπαθολογικών εικόνων (Digital Histopathology Imaging).

Brain-Inspired Techniques

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data Analysis, Genetic Algorithms, Data Mining, Smart Places.
